The Equality Alliance is ...

A community empowerment organization focused on
voter engagement, issue advocacy, and leadership development.

Our goal is to mobilize marginalized and disenfranchised communities in San Diego to
engage in the electoral process, drive a social justice agenda, and bring about transformative change that fulfills a vision of equality.

We are currently fighting for ...
  • educational equity in our schools
  • humane treatment of immigrants
  • fair tax and fiscal policies

Did You Know ...

  • San Diego County has the second largest number of eligible voters in California.
  • While the electorate has grown more diverse, voter participation rates are less in low-income communities and communities of color.
  • Although there are 1.4 million registered voters in the county, about 850,000 of them (61%) don't vote regularly.
  • The Equality Alliance is changing voter participation rates through a peer-to-peer model, reaching out to thousands of infrequent voters during and between elections.
  • In the last election (Nov 2010), we reached out to 13,000 infrequent voters who turned out at higher rates (71%) than all county voters (64%).

  • Education Victory in Sweetwater District This week, the Equality Alliance and our education allies celebrated a major victory! Over the last several years, the Equality Alliance has led a coalition effort to get school districts in the county to provide all students with the career and college prep curriculum known as the "A-G" course sequence. The A-G courses are rigorous courses that prepare students to pursue a degree at a community college or a university, which 7 out of 10 jobs now require. Currently, only 4 out 10 high school graduates in the county complete the 15 courses that make up the A-G sequence, and access to the courses varies significantly among high schools. But that is changing.  On Monday, the Sweetwater ...
